Do I have to go through the year of counseling with the priest in order to get married?

Ten years ago I married my husband at the Justice of Peace (City Hall). Next year will be our 11th anniversary and I would like to renew my vows at a catholic church. I would like to have it very similar to a wedding. Wedding gown, wedding march song, exchange of rings, ring bearer, flower girl, matron of honor and best man. I never was married before except to my husband 10 years ago. Do I have to go through the year of counseling??? Also he is Muslim. Would the Catholic church allow an Imam (Muslim religous leader) to come into the church and participate in the wedding. I guess they call it an inter-faith wedding?

You're already married. Just rent a priest costume and let your drunk brother in law officiate. Everyone has a drunk brother in law.
Reply:just go to vegas
Reply:You can't marry a non-Christian in the Catholic church. You need a special dispensation just to marry a non-Catholic Christian.

As for the marriage counseling, its called pre-canon, it doesn't last a year. It's shorter than that.

You might be able to talk a priest into attending a non-religious ceremony and to offer some kind of blessing, but you can't renew your vows with someone who doesn't recognize the divinity of Christ in Christ's church.
